Interview tibit on “The Great Gatsby”

Nothing quite new with the exception of some small casting news in regards to the other two main characters but The Great Gatsby was mentioned in a recent interview with director Baz Luhrmann :) You can read the rest of the interview with Baz Luhrmann at the source.

How do you balance your time between working on the stage show and your upcoming film production of “The Great Gatsby”?

I spend the mornings working on casting Gatsby; I’m focusing on casting Jordan and Tom at the moment [....] The Gatsby workshop [with DiCaprio and Maguire] was a fantastically enriching and touching experience. But that’s a story for a different time.

The Big Names Return for Sundance’s Unofficial Section

Here come the stars: the Sundance Film Festival announced its roster of films playing out of competition on Thursday and the selections – unlike those in the competitive slate – include marquee names on both sides of the camera.

Bigwig actors and actresses are also sprinkled throughout the selections. Tobey Maguire stars in The Details. Directed by Jacob Aaron Estes (Mean Creek), the film has one of the more bizarre descriptions in the entire festival: hungry raccoons discover worms living under sod in a couple’s backyard, leading to a wild and absurd chain reaction that includes organ donation and murder by way of bow and arrow.

Leonardo DiCaprio Wins Lead In Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby

According to Muveez, Leonardo DiCaprio has landed the role of Jay Gatsby in Baz Luhrmann’s remake of the famous novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I’m also reading reports that Tobey has signed on to play Nick Carraway, the narrator of the story.

I really hope these reports are true as I would love to see Tobey play Nick! If I find an official confirmation, I’ll update as soon as I can!

Baz Luhrmann Searches Wide for Daisy in The Great Gatsby

Baz Luhrmann, the visionary auteur behind Moulin Rouge! and Australia, is gearing up to direct his next project, an adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s acclaimed novel The Great Gatsby. According to Deadline, he recently work shopped the screenplay he wrote with Moulin Rouge!‘s Craig Pearce, which saw Leonardo DiCaprio reading as Jay Gatsby and Tobey Maguire reading as Nick Carraway. Luhrmann wants both actors for his movie, but he is not so sure about casting the coveted role of Daisy just yet.

On Baz Luhrmann’s current wish list, he has Keira Knightley, Amanda Seyfried, Blake Lively, Abbie Cornish, Michelle Williams, Natalie Portman, and Scarlett Johansson. Luhrmann will conduct table reads over the course of the next two weeks in New York City to see how each of these actresses plays against Leonardo DiCaprio. It is suspected that some of the above mentioned women will not be able to audition, as most are currently in the midst of shooting their own projects at this time.

The Great Gatsby comes to theaters in 2012. The film is directed by Baz Luhrmann….Source

I would absolutely love to see Tobey play Nick!

Pictures and Brothers News

RRICHARD ROEPER’s (Sun-Times Columnist’s) Top 10 Movies 0f 2009
“Brothers” is No.1!

A brilliant, beautiful, harsh, gut-punching, 21st century war story with Biblical overtones. Some critics said Jim Sheridan’s adaptation of the great Danish film to be too glossy and heavy-handed, but I found it to be just as profound as the original. Either you buy Tobey Maguire’s tightly wound performance or you don’t. I thought his performance was pure truth. A perfectly realized screenplay, intense performances from all the leads, amazing work by the supporting cast, including the two little girls. Reminiscent of classics such as “Coming Home.” Source:

“Brothers” is No.3!

Brothers Jim Sheridan’s melancholy drama (with superlative performances by Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman and Sam Shepard), explores not just the horror of the “war on terror,” but the chemistry of families — the connections that shape our actions even when separated from loved ones by continents.
