Maguire gets tough

THERE’S a memorable moment in The Good German when the usually squeaky-clean, baby-faced Tobey Maguire turns shockingly nasty.

The quivery, child-like voice is still there but instead of projecting the lovable vulnerability that Maguire has made his trademark in films like Spider-Man and The Cider House Rules, it’s full of ego and malice.

Here’s a couple of quotes:

“Cate is a phenomenal actress and George is great – he’s a lot of fun and is very funny,” he says.

“The atmosphere on the set was great – very relaxed and comfortable and easy.

“I’m used to a very different kind of machine but this was just like a breeze – it didn’t even feel like work.”
